Whole30 // Health // Habits

Kevin and I are fasting through whole30. I’ve learned a lot in just the few days that we have participated.

  1. I don’t eat enough veggies. It wasn’t painfully obvious to me until I realized that the majority of my vegetables come in the form of frozen bags defrosted at the last moment, simple salad with little more than fruit, nuts, and vinegarette, or included in sauces and bases. My fridge currently has more varieties of vegetables than Kevin and I have eaten in our six months in Waterford.
  2. Almond milk is delicious and super easy to make. I’ve always been a fan of the made from scratch. If I can’t make it at home I’m probably better off not eating it. However, because I have no issue with regular cows milk I haven’t considered the fact that I could make or consume almond milk.
  3. I don’t read the labels. Sure, I’ll check the nutrition facts on the snacks for the kids to make sure it’s not loaded with sugar and dyes, but I don’t look at the list of ingredients. I don’t check to see what additives are used or if there is sugar added to my mayonnaise.

While I may not continue the vast majority of whole30 (I like cheese and pasta too much). We will be making an effort to read the labels and incorporate more veggies into our meals. We may even have a carb free meal a few times a months.
